Neopets Successor
Core Idea
A game that captures the spirit of Neopets — virtual pet ownership, progression, a living world — but built with a modern, 2D pixel art aesthetic rather than 3D.
State of Thinking
The visual direction is clear early: this is not a 3D game. The reference point is 小小侠客模拟器 (Xiao Xiao Xiake Simulator) — that aesthetic and feel is the target, not a polished 3D pet game.
This is still a very early idea. The visual direction is the only thing that feels decided right now.
Thinking Trace
- Have been thinking about a Neopets-style game for a while
- The 3D direction never felt right — too heavy, too far from what made Neopets charming
- Came across 小小侠客模拟器 and it clicked — that kind of 2D feel is what I am after
- Everything else about the game (mechanics, platform, monetisation, scope) is still completely open

Evidence / Signals
- 小小侠客模拟器 exists and works — proves the aesthetic can carry a game
Open Questions
- What is the core game loop — what does the player actually do day to day?
- What platform — mobile, web, desktop?
- What makes this different enough from Neopets itself or other successors?
- How deep does the pet simulation go — stats, breeding, battles, social?
- What engine fits a 2D pixel art approach best?
- Is this solo playable or does it need a community to work?
